Dress Code
We are excited to blend both our Tamil / Sri Lankan and European cultures in this special celebration!
For the wedding ceremony, we would love for our guests to embrace the tradition by wearing formal South Asian attire. It’s a wonderful way to share in the beauty and vibrancy of our special occasion.
However, we understand that this might not be comfortable for everyone, and we want you to feel your best. If you’d prefer to wear something else, feel free to choose formal attire that you love. Your presence means the most to us!
For those of you who are unsure what to wear, below are a few suggestions and websites to browse and if you are unsure, please ask us any questions you may have.
Ladies Dress
Lehenga
The lehenga consists of three main pieces: the skirt (lehenga), blouse (choli), and dupatta (scarf), making it a visually striking and elegant outfit.
Lehenga (Skirt):
• Design and Shape: The lehenga is a long, flowing skirt that can be flared, A-line, or mermaid-style (fitted through the hips and flared at the bottom). The amount of flare, called the ghera, is often a defining feature.
Choli (Blouse):
• Design: The choli is a fitted blouse that can be designed in various styles, including off-shoulder, halter neck, or with a deep back. Some cholis have intricate embroidery to match the lehenga.
• Dupatta (Scarf or Veil):
Guests might style it more casually over one shoulder, rather than wearing it as a veil.
Kurti
A Kurti is a is a long, tunic-style top. It is perfect during wedding celebrations.
Length and Fit:
Kurtis can vary in length, from waist-length to knee or calf-length, and they often have a straight, A-line, or flared cut. The fit is usually comfortable, allowing easy movement.
The Kurti is usually worn with trousers and the entire ensemble can be purchased as a matching suit for formal wedding occasions.
A Kurti is not just a standalone garment but part of a coordinated outfit for a wedding, often worn with jewellery, scarves and traditional footwear like juttis.
Saree
It is a long piece of unstitched fabric, typically ranging from 5 to 9 yards, draped gracefully around the body in a way that exudes both tradition and beauty.
The saree is a popular choice for brides, bridesmaids, and guests at Indian weddings due to its versatility, timeless appeal, and ability to showcase intricate craftsmanship.
There is an art to wearing a Saree and can be complicated.
Ladies’s Footwear
For ladies attending a formal Indian wedding, here are some elegant footwear options to complement traditional attire:
- Mojaris/Juttis: These flat, slip-on shoes are beautifully embroidered and comfortable, making them ideal for sarees, lehengas, or salwar suits. They blend tradition with ease for long hours of wear.
- Heeled Sandals: Open-toe or strappy heeled sandals in metallic tones (gold, silver) or neutral shades are perfect for formal attire like sarees or lehengas. They add a touch of elegance and height without overpowering the outfit.
- Kolhapuri Wedges: For a fusion of comfort and style, Kolhapuri wedges offer a traditional look with added height, making them great for both ethnic and fusion outfits.
Opt for footwear in metallics, neutrals, or colors that complement the outfit to ensure a balanced, stylish look.

Menswear
Sherwani
A long, elegant coat paired with fitted trousers, often adorned with intricate embroidery for a regal look.
Kurta with Churidar
A knee-length tunic worn with fitted pants (churidar), offering a classic yet comfortable style.
Western-style Suit
A tailored suit in rich or vibrant colors can also be a great option for a more modern and versatile look, blending both our cultures seamlessly.
Men’s Footwear
For men wearing a Sherwani or Kurta, here are the traditional footwear options:
- Juttis/Mojaris: These are traditional Indian slip-on shoes, usually made of leather or fabric with intricate embroidery or patterns. They pair perfectly with both Sherwanis and Kurtas, completing the traditional look.
- Kolhapuris: These open-toe sandals are handcrafted from leather, offering a slightly more relaxed and comfortable option while still keeping the traditional style.
- Formal Loafers: For a more contemporary touch, plain leather loafers in neutral colors can work well, especially with a kurta for a fusion of styles.
Stick with neutral tones like gold, beige, brown, or black to keep the look cohesive.
